Greenock Ocean Terminal receives almost 60 cruise ships per year starting in early March and continuing through November. With those ships come over 100,000 passengers. Greenock is the cruise port city closest to Glasgow in Scotland. Ships dock at Ocean Terminal beside the town center. There is a tented cruise terminal here with souvenir stalls, internet, and tourist information. As of this writing, I could find no active rental car agencies in or around Greenock. The closest one  is at the Glasgow Airport. If you have only one day in port, getting to the airport will take valuable time. If you are wanting to see the Colquhoun Clan sites shown on this web site you will need your own transportation or hire a private driver.

I found that Fisher Trucks LTD (www.fishertrucks.co.uk) in the nearby town of Gourock will rent 5, 8 or 9 seat "People Carriers". They are open 7 days a week. The cost to rent the 9 seat people carrier in 2018 was around £90 plus fuel for the day. These folks are very accommodating and, if you ask nicely, will drive you back to the ship after you drop off the van. They do close at 5:00 pm and so you will need to time your "tour" to make sure you return in time or make arraignments ahead of time with them for later drop off.  Their phone number is: 01475 633 255 and email: info@fishertrucks.co.uk

If you reserve a 8 or 9 seat van, you can offset the costs by offering this Clan Tour to other cruise ship passengers. We used CruiseCritic.com to find other fellow passengers. We offered to have them share the adventure for minimal cost per couple and we had three couples sign up quickly with others on a waiting list. For those that went with us, they mentioned it was their least expensive and the most enjoyable "excursions" they had on the cruise. It should be noted that none of those that joined us had any connection to the Colquhoun Clan, but all had a great time.

To get to Gourock and Fisher Trucks find a cab outside the Cruise Terminal Tent. It is a 10 minute, £8 +tip ride (2017) to pick up the van located at: 10-14 Cardwell Rd, Gourock PA19 1UH. (55.955875, -4.806303)
