Why This Site?
A number of years ago my wife and I planned a trip to Scotland. Since we were going to be near Glasgow, it was decided that we would spend a day visiting Colquhoun Clan related sites. I looked long and hard for information on sites that we could visit and how they related to the Clan. I thought how convenient it would be to have all the sites, their background information, and detailed instructions and maps where to find them, all in one spot. Thus this site was born. It is a culmination of years of research and the gathering of information from many different places and people - including numerous trips to the area. I have borrowed descriptions, stories, and other points of interest to enhance this site. I have tried to be objective when reviewing a variety of folklore from different sources. The hope is to provided all known stories as to how something happened. I think I speak for all those with ties to the clan how much we appreciate that there are still sites to visit and thanks for those that kept them available for the current generations to enjoy.

This Colquhoun Tour site is divided into four main sections along the top of this page and can be reached by clicking the the menu. In the first one, you will find details about how you might best visit the sites depending on how you arrive.

The second one is "About the Colquhouns" and you will find two sections, one includes the history and background of the Colquhouns in Scotland, while the second one describes the history of what I believe to be the first Colquhoun in America, William Colquhoun.

Next you will find "The Clan Tour" which is divided into three parts and includes 14 sites. It begins as if one is coming from Glasgow headed east along A82. It covers all the majors Clan Colquhoun Sites.

The "Maps of Sites" sections provides google maps of the sites, GPS Coordinates, additional instructions, and photos where necessary.

There is also a Facebook Page that you may want to join to keep up on the latest information and discussions.

In addition to this site I created a Google Earth* project that walks you through all the clan sites via a Goggle map. It allows you to understand better where the sites are in relationship to the other sites including photos/videos and connection to the clan please click here to:

*If you are new to Google Earth, the link will request you load the app if you are on mobile device or if on a computer/browser it will come up in a web page. To get started on the tour you click the play button titled “Present” and it will bring up the first site. You can tap through the photos/video on that site and/or scroll down and read why it might be of interest. To go to the next site, you click the “>” next to the 1/75. You may open the Table of Contents and choose exactly what you what to see. You will also see the legend for the sites that will help you decide what to see and prioritize your visit:

Red site marker and "***" Must see site
